• You can setup an application on your computer to do this. The drive itself does not do this. You must manually manage your backups.

• I am not sure. We had to buy this as we had so many pictures to transfer from one laptop to another. It went way faster than what we were originally doing.

• I know if you use Apples time machine, that it will delete the old backup file, you can set the app to notify you when it is deleting these files.
