Yes, that's exactly what I did, my startup disk was full, so i purchased the drive to use as a storage for my 4,000 photos. I am purchasing another external drive to have my photos stored in at least 2 places, just in case anything were to happen to one I would have a backup.

Absolutely, just like deleting files from our computer, select-right click-delete. Easy-peasy.
