Yes this worked well for me in my PS4 Pro and since the Pro takes the same size drive as the regular PS4 this would work great for your sons PS4 as well.

Yes. This should give your son more than enough memory in his PS4, I believe a 2tb hdd is the largest one you can put in a ps4. Be warned though, it's not as simple as plugging it into the ps4s USB port. You have to pop open the seagate plastic case and remove the hdd inside (which will void the seagate warranty) and then replace your ps4s hdd with the seagate one (you should be able to find instructions on how to do this online, it's fairly simple).

The device I have is a "backup" drive not additional hard drive space. This device will work if he wants to move files to it for storage and then be able to move them back to the hard drive in the future.
