“Must I unlock my Seagate backup every time I turn on my computer in order for it to perform backups or is there some other purpose for unlocking it?”

• No. If the Seagate is connected to the Apple computer and Time Machine is engaged, you don't have to do anything. Back-ups are automatic.

• not for backups I have no idea why it would ever need to be locked

• You WANT TO HAVE TO UNLOCK the device. Granted it takes away time.... BUT TIME MEANS SECURITY! In the ease and err of the tech world we live in today you NEED TO TAKE THE EXTRA STEP. So, although this CAN BE DONE....I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS STEP TO MY MOTHER!!!
