I would say possibly faulty but depends on your computer. Check Seagate site for a driver to install. They offer them on the external hard drive if needed but if yours doesn’t even show up it could be a faulty external HD, cord or even the port you are using on your computer. Yes the 3.0 ports can accept the 2.1 and older USB but the 2.1 and older ports don’t work with 3.0 cables.
