One way is to connect cable box or blue ray player to a reciever (receiver must have surround sound capablities,most do) using the HDMI connections, then connect it to your tv. Another way would be to connect cable box or blue ray player to a reciever using only the fiber optic portion to the receiver and the HDMI portions of the cable box or blue ray player to the tv, this is the method i like to use because it separates the audio and picture. You could also buy a all in one system like the one i added

We recommend using HDMI 1 which has the Audio Return Channel (ARC) or Digital Audio Output, if the source and the surround sound support the connections.
