HUGE screen - amazing value!

This is my 4th HDTV in about 8 years. My first TV was a 42" Toshiba rear projection. Second TV was a 56" JVC HD-ILA rear projection. Third was a 65" Mitsubishi DLP.
This Sharp LED television is by far the best of any TV I've ever owned. The picture is incredibly bright and detailed. Colors are amazing.
I calibrated my set using an Avia calibration DVD after watching the TV for about 100 hours. Out of the box the TV had a very strong red push and the calibration disc eliminated it. Much, much better black levels than my DLP had.
Its pretty amazing how large of an LED screen you can get for such a great price. When I went in to my local Best Buy they actually had the set on sale lower than it was shown online. That, plus the 36 month interest free financing sealed the deal for me. I was originally going to go with the 60" model but I'm very happy that I decided on the 70"!

I bought this tv last Thursday after a lot of research and reading reviews. The tv looks even bigger at home than it did at the store, which is by no means a bad thing!! The picture is absolutely stunning, it's like actually being at the movies. The built in LAN port makes it easy to connect to your home network and to the internet, and not having to worry about any RF interference, or losing connection to the wifi. I would recommend this tv to anyone who wants a movie theater experience in their home, but make sure to have an AV Receiver with good speakers as the built in ones do not have the best sound quality.

So I just picked up one of these over the weekend and so far, so good. This review is based on initial impressions and limited play time, so I may update this post in the future.
AESTHETICS: It pretty much looks like every other LCD TV out there. Black bezel all around, small manufacturer logo on the bottom. There is a somewhat irritating "system on" light on the bottom of the unit when the TV is on, but this can be turned off in the setup menu. All in all, it's a good looking unit and while not as thin as some LED units, is still plenty svelte for your wall.
PERFORMANCE-VIDEO: I am by no means an expert, but so far, the picture looks great. Out the box, the contrast and Brightness were turned way up along with the 120Hz processing, which gives you the "soap opera effect". Once I turned off all of the "extras" and turned down the contrast and brightness, I got a much more natural picture. Viewing blu-ray on this is something to behold. Regular TV (non-HD) doesnt look all that great, but to be honest, most of my viewing is HD content. (I use Directv currently)
Videogaming is fine, no lag issues (Xbox 360 and PS3). Again, I'm not a professional gamer and I play occasionally, so me noticing a difference of 1-2MS is lost on me.
PERFORMANCE-AUDIO: I use a separate audio system so I have no clue how the speakers sound. Let's be honest, why would you drop 3k on a TV and then depend on the internal speakers? AT a minimum get yourself a soundbar.
EXTRAS: This would be the widgets and Apps included onboard. The widgets are neither here nor there for me. I usually have my phone nearby, so interrupting my TV watching to check stocks or look at twitter is something I wont be doing. The ability to pull up Netflix and pandora on the TV though is great. (I previously used my Xbox for Netflix). I jacked an ethernet cable into the TV, so I'm unsure now the wi-fi works (I've read reviews where the signal strength isn't very strong, so be warned).
Overall, this is a great TV and most retail outlets including BB is willing to deal on price, so go in ready to negotiate! I guess the only thing missing is 3D and to be honest, I could care les. 3D is not a closer for me. It'd be nice to have, but I was looking for a 70" with great picture quality, so I'm happy. 4 stars as a 5 star review would be for something with Pioneer Elite Picture quality. Hope this review helps those who are still on the fence.

Purchased this tv a week ago and just finished mounting it last night. I must say that I am extremely pleased with the picture quality, the apps (wifi), and the overall look of the tv.
Like many, I was looking into buying the Samsung 65" LED tv, but at $4,000+ for 120hz, and $5,000+ for 240hz, it was simply too much. After being very patient, I ran across this tv while surfing the net. I couldn't believe that a 70" LED tv was under $3,000. Of course, I was very skeptical, thinking that I was going to get more quantity than quality (man was I ever wrong). When I fired the tv up and connected it to directv hd, I was blown away. I have yet to hook this up to blu-ray player (a task for today), but I can only imagine.
This tv might not be razor thin like others in the market, but when its mounted on the wall and people see the sheer size and picture quality, they will be blown away. Do yourself a favor, as I did, and buy this tv because you will not be disappointed. In fact, with the money I saved I am seriously considering buyng another one.

I was expecting to sacrifice picture quality with the increased size. I also own a Samsung 55" LED and I did not expect the 70" Sharp to be able to match the picture quality. I was pleasantly suprised when
I hooked up the HD signal and finished the set-up. The picture quality is very close the Samsung. The screen is less glossy than the Samsung, so during the day it is easier to view in my living room with twelve windows. The backlight also adjusts to the
amount of light in the room automatically, which is very nice. The layout of the remote is slighty unusual, but no real problem. I changed the picture settings and found big improvements over the pre-programmed choices. Blu-ray looks amazing and the TV automatically changes to the appropriate input when the Blu-ray player is turned on. I am very happy with my purchase and the price paid.

I can't believe those that gave it low ratings, I just got this TV after tons of research and trying to get the best quality for the money. This 70 inch TV mounted on my wall looks incredible. Then I've got it connected to my Sony surround system with Klipsh speakers making it better than going to the movies for me. The best thing about it is the matte screen and brightness, I have a bright living room with large windows and sunlight is always coming in, but with this TV I can see it perfectly clear.
For gaming, you need to put it in game mode and it won't work against the built in graphics of the Xbox with Kinect and Playstation 3.
The remote control could have been better.
Also, play around with the settings, geek squad set mine up and looks 10 times better than in the store. I also have a 50 inch Panasonic and 50 inch Samsung and the picture rivals those 2, plus it doesn't put off the heat those do.
Overall, this is the best bang for your buck and no friend will have a bigger one-lol

We've done a lot of research, we had a 65" Mitsubishi Projection TV, and this TV blows everything away. The clarity of color and picture is like being LIVE at the scene. It actually takes some getting used to because it is SO life-like. We watched a movie on BlueRay and the picture is astounding. TV programs aren't quite the same, because of variations in filming, but they are way better than anything we've seen before. There is a slight adjustment to get used to when watching HD channels...fast movement seems odd but It does benefit you to play around with the settings. Defaults are good, but Dynamic took it to a whole other level. The brightness of color is phenominal. For the money, this TV can't be beat. You will want external speakers as the TV itself really isn't SOUND intense. The BestBuy staff was very knowlegeable in explaining the differences we asked about between this and other brands. Top Quality!

I was debating on picking this up verses the 240hz version (non 3d) that they have at HH Gregg and BJs. Because I am a premier silver member I figured to try out this TV first.
The TV has a great price-point for the size and I absolutely dig it in my movie room. Blu Rays and my gaming systems (360 and PS3) look awesome.
The issue with this (and probably most TVs coming out this size) is that anything that comes in that is not 1080P isn't going to look as good as it does on a 55"-60" screen. That includeds "HDTV" such as Comcast or Verizon FIOS.
What you have to realize is that HD cable comes in at 1080i (or upscaled 720P) so you are not getting true high quality HD. Now on a 55"-60" screen your not going to notice a lot of distortion or noise unless you are right up on the TV. But at 70" (i.e. this TV has 15% more screen than a 60" TV) that noise and distortion that you are not noticing on smaller TVs becomes very apparent. Cable pictures don't look as crisp as you'll be used to, and just forget about 4:3 non-HD channels.
Personally I don't watch non-HD channels and I expect a little degradation when it comes to HD cable. But where my 1000+ movie collection of regular DVDs used to look good on my "smaller TV" on this is 70" they just look OK.
I also don't use the speakers on the TV (I have surround sound) and having wireless in the TV is awesome for the widgets... but I barely use them.
So all-in-all - if you are going to get a TV this size expect your cable to look "decent" but you're going to need to watch whatever you can in 1080P to get it's full value.

I read 8 of the reviews here before I bought mine. Also looked at one set up in store. I found that simply turning down the back light a little quashed all of the negative symptoms some people described (too yellow, hazy, not enough contrast, etc.) The Dynamic modes were closest, and I customized the User mode based on them. You can play with it in the Picture settings User mode, with auto backlight (ODC) and the backlight setting itself making the most noticeable difference. Try the varioius modes first - you might be happy with one of them. Your lighting situations and taste should dictate your choices.
The result of a little tweaking is a strikingly clear picture (better than any I have seen). If you look through the built-in demo you can see some of the reasons for it. Picture is so clear it is like you are there. No pixelation visible at all, even if you are way too close to this huge screen. The scenes with depth give a near 3-D like feeling.
I can not speak to the sound since I hooked mine to a new sound system. Frankly I have not heard of any flat-screen that had good sound quality, so I did not even mess with it. Also - why go for High Definition picture and then ruin it with Low Definition sound.
I am still learning it - currently hooked up to BD player, Direct TV, and network (for Netflix). Have yet to try the DLNA or USB connections.
This TV is very feature rich, and lots to learn before you can take advantage of everything.

Set the TV up and adjusted the colors using the Disney WOW disc. Excelllent color, resolution, and brightness. Removed the overscan and got pixel to pixel resolution. Not washed out or pixelated even with a large screen. The fourth color requires setting the colors by eye, but the video setup helped.
I think this is outstanding value for the price. Didn't feel the need to go 3D which would have cost slightly more for a smaller screen. Made the right choice an went with the larger screen. Had the TV for 6 weeks and have no regrets.

I have had this TV for 2 weeks now and without hesitation I will say that this is a fantastic television. I have it connected to Directv HD and a Sharp BD. For those of you not familiar with LED\LCD beware. This tv will make you HD shows look like they were shot live. The picture quality is unreal. The best I have ever seen. I think this is the way filmmakers intended their shows to be viewed. I would purchase another one if my wife would let me.

Delivered on time and in perfect condition. Hanging on the tilt wall mount also sold at Best Buy was a breeze. From floor to hanging on the mount I had pre-installed took approx 5 seconds. Picture set up was fairly easy . Tip...turn of Film Mode to rid yourself of the soap opera effect where everything looks like a performance play rather then a movie, by default its on. Picture quality is amazing, crisp, sharp, beautiful colors without over saturation, do not judge tv by the picture in the store unless you adjust the settings, even then conditions are probably vastly different in your home. I noticed very little motion blur, even on sports. I pulled my HD recording of the '11 Super Bowl and found I preferred watching with the 120hz motion setting either at low or off. The built in wifi does flawlessly pull up my netflix account and streams effortlessly with zero to no signal loss observed so far. Watching the "Thor" Blu Ray there were some very annoying blue artifacts. These artifacts seem traced to emanating from certain blue lighting effects used in the movie...most notable in a bar scene with Thor and a scientist. It's as if the light simply didn't know when to quit...it is evident on every repeat viewing and no setting adjustment I could find altered it in any way. Conversely the use of neon/electric type blue lighting in "Avatar" and "Tron" caused no such issue. So I believe the issue may just exist with my blu ray printing of "Thor".
Sound is "ok". It sounds like every other TV I've ever heard. If you have a room big enough to accept this tv then you probably also have a nice independent sound system, otherwise the volume may be a tad underwhelming.
Overall I highly recommend this television, wonderful picture, nice apps. Take some time to adjust the modes, play some sports through it and play with the motion settings. Turn off film mode unless you are a fan of plays. If you spend 30 minutes or so setting up the television I believe you will very happy with it.

This TV serves exactly the audience it was intended. A budget shopper, who is not a TV snob, is willing to forgo 3D and wants a great 2D picture , some internet frills and no hassle. I bought this TV online from BestBuy on Saturday, delivered to the store by Tuesday , took it home in a pickup truck on Wed, hauled it upstairs myself, unboxed it, hung it and plugged it in. Hooked up my cheap $99 Sony blue ray and watched The Matrix by Tue night. it was epic. Some of the best reviews on here are about how to tweak the settings. The TV from the factory settings do need worked, what i did was follow some of the others advice; i turned off the 120hz motion, and got it out of Live Mode and set the colors and that to more general. From there, to me, the picture is fantastic and had no issues with ghosting or anything else, even in the action and shooting sequences! Granted, i have a black media room, so i do not get any glare, and some of the issues the snobs would notice, i probably don't even see..the sound is just fine for normal watching, no different than any other TV to be honest...hook it up to any surround sound and thats not the TV, thats the quality of your system. No one buys a 70 in Tv to use the speakers it comes with. If you complain about that, then your just being petty and cheap. I also think some of the complaints could be either a bad unit, or they didn't spend any time trying to get it setup..i could be wrong..but i think anything new these days have to be setup correctly and for you. Nothing comes out of the box exact. I am also not a big internet on my TV fan, thats why we have blueray or someother device that does that if you like it. Its cool, not to robust but offers the normal ones, Netflix, Blockbuster etc. but i couldn't care less. if you have a good wireless signal, the apps work fine, as we all know, streaming is as good as the app, and the signal that streams it. I could just hook up my Ipad or PC if i really needed to, so all thats over rated when it comes to TVs but if you can only buy the TV and nothing else, it serves it's purpose. All of the pre-loaded apps work fine. Anyone thinking of buying this TV, give it a hard look, granted it does not have the fit and finish of the Samsung, nor the price, but its black, in a black room, so who cares. I buy a TV to watch it, not look at it, and i buy it to watch it, not to impress my friends to show them how fancy my TV looks. if you want a good TV, then i suggest for $1999 you can't go wrong. I can't comment on long term or customer support, but other reviews have given Sharp good marks for service working remote on their TV or talking to them..so i think that has been covered as well.

We replaced a 47" LCD which when we got it thought it had a great picture. The sharp 70" just blows it away. My family is thirlled with it, my 9 yr old loves it for game play and there are enough HDMI hookup so we can hook up all the game consoles. We have not watched a Blue Ray disc on it yet but the picture we get from the dish is stunning.
For the price you could not get more bang for your buck.

The people who gave this TV a 1 star should educate themselves more. For the price this TV is the best out there. You can't get anything better than this. The picture quality is amazing!!! I just purchased this tv a few weeks ago and I could not be happier. Great value for the price. I dont understand the few negative reviews. The guy that said that this tv does not view well in the dark needs to have his eyes checked. I think it looks better with the lights off. Perhaps they need to try some picture or color adjustments.
It looks great in daytime as well. I have a large window that faces the screen about 24 feet away. During the brightest time of day there is a bit of reflection when the picture is dark, but during bright picture you don't see any reflection. Keep in mind that my tv room is not overly bright at any time of day.
As mentioned in most of the reviews, the sound on the tv is below standard. I purchased a Samsung surround sound and blu ray system when I bought the tv. This was a great choice. It sounds like your at the movies. It was also simple to hook up. Don't see the need to pay someone to do it.
I have not connected to internet or games, so I can't speak to that.

Most credible reviews suggested tweaking the picture and I did to get better blacks and brightness. Have DIRECTV and the HD picture is UNBELIEVEABLE!! Have a BOSE system so sound is great. Cant go wrong in our home I have 2 Samsung, one LG, and this Sharp. Very IMPRESSED with this one. Wife wonders when will it end, lol!

Walking into Best Buy, I was intent on purchasing a 55" TV. If I found a great deal, I was prepared to snag a 60", but my intentions were to get the best 55" I could find and go from there. Standing in the store, I saw 70" of glory standing in front of me. This TV had better picture quality than any of the other TVs on display, including the hyped-up extra-bright Samsungs that usually get all of the attention.
The Quattron tech really adds another dimension to the picture quality, and who can be upset with 70"? You will not understand how big this thing truly is until you set it up in your home. Watch The Lord of the Rings on Blu-Ray or play Madden/Modern Warfare 3 and try not to drool.
Being able to run Netflix through the set is a great plus, and being able to hook all of my consoles plus my cable receiver/DVR is a huge plus. DLNA is obviously a nice addition, although not particularly special to this TV.
The only minor issues I have with this set are the sound quality with the internal speakers, and absence of a handful of apps. The first part is easily resolved with a good home theater system. To be fair, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense not to hook one up to a 70" TV, so I can't fault Sharp too much there. That being said, not having Pandora is a little bit of a bummer, but the DLNA can make up for that pretty easily.
Overall, one of the best purchases I've ever made. A great TV with awesome connectivity.
