Not sure about the optical cord but it sounds great and I don’t have a sub.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.As far as the optical port, I think you can. The ARC only has HDMI but there are adaptors that will convert optical to HDMI. For the sub, It definitely doesn't need it. I ordered one before my ARC came in and I'm second-guessing the decision after using the ARC for about a week. However, my ARC is sitting on a wood entertainment cabinet below the TV and sitting on a wood enclosure helps to accentuate the bass. I ordered the sub because if I mount it on the wall and lo longer use the cabinet, I don't want to lose the bass. BTW, I went through a couple of soundbars before this one.
