Can this be the component that connects directly with Ethernet to our internet? We don't need a speaker in the small bedroom that houses our internet line. Can this then be the main component that connects directly with an Ethernet cable? And then have all the other speakers, in all the other rooms, connect wirelessly to this boost component? Or must we have a speaker connect directly with an Ethernet?

The Boost is the only thing that needs to hook up to the Ethernet cable. The speakers hook up to the boost. It is Awesome... I have the boost, the playbar, play1 and play 3

Yes, the boost hooks up to the ethernet cable and it can be the only Sonos item in that location, all other access wirelessly (except for the Soundbar that must plug in using optical output from your HD TV).

Yes the boost takes the place of having to connect a speaker directly with your internet modem/router. My internet modem/router is also in a room that does not require a speaker and purchasing the boost eliminated the need for putting a more expensive speaker in there.

Yes this is the only thing you need to have to plug into your router..Thats the setup we have as well…Plugs into our router in my office(no speaker needed here)….Then speakers everywhere else in the house! It is an amazing system…I control different music and volume throughout the house with an app on android phone or Mac!

I have my Boost connected directly to my wireless router. As for my speakers, I have them connected to a wall outlet which supplies power to the speakers...that's it. So in short, your speakers don't need to be plugged into the ethernet router....only the Boost. Hope this helps.

With the boost you can move the speaker to a different room and just connect the Boost in the bedroom where you have your internet setup.

We connected this directly to our internet router in the room where that is, and then this connects wirelessly with the speaker we purchased that is in the dining room. You need this just to transmit wirelessly to the other speakers.

Yes, you would simply connect the boost to your wireless router and in a few minutes you should have it installed. After that, you would sync all of your sonos products to that booster without having to have ethernet cables on the devices. It is great to have if you have more than two sonos products. Also remember that play 1's and play 2's need to be in pairs otherwise you can not install them as a set up. Unless is a Play 3
