Atmos can be accomplished with the following configuration - left front, right front, center channel, left surround, right surround, subwoofer + two other speakers either aimed toward the ceiling from the top of your front left and front right speakers or positioned (affixed to) on the ceiling above the listening position. These extra speakers provide an ambient effect such as rain on the roof, planes overhead, etc. This example would be called a 7.1 system. This would be the basic Atmos system. Adding extra speakers on the ceiling will only duplicate the first set (a 9.1 system). Adding two more speakers behind the listening area becomes an 11.1 system. Adding another subwoofer to the equation would respectively create 7.2, 9.2 and 11.2 system configurations.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.According to the Dolby Atmos site, whether you are setting up and 5.1.2 or 7.1.2 setup, only 2 Atmos enabled speakers are required. I have mine in a 5.1.2 setup with the Sony STR-DH790 receiver and they sound awesome! Sony has 2 diagrams of speaker placement. One has the Atmos speakers on top of the front channel speakers point up to bounce the sound off the ceiling. The other is to mount the speakers on the wall above the front channel speakers, pointing down to give the proper effect. I chose the high wall mount option. Also, make sure your equipment is all Atmos capable. Once you have everything on the same page, so to speak, you will enjoy your setup much more. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.2 pairs of atmos speakers would be optimum, but only if your receiver can output 2 pairs. 1 pair in the front and 1 pair in the back will give you a more precise sound experience. Either way 1 or 2 pairs enjoy your speakers!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Seems like bs... just better to get an all in one system.... I'm going with the hw q850a and forgetting these complications such as where the wires go, do I need towers, compatibility issues, etc. Is awesome, but having technical issues with my current vizio, keeps turning on and off..
