Both of the 50 mm are prime lenses. Prime lenses are any lens of a fixed focal length. In this case the optical is for crop sensor (Sony A5000 and A6000 lines). The cheaper prime lens is full frame.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Prime is fixed focal length so much faster shutter speeds are available at low ISO. Zooms are 3 to 4 times slower. Primes are for portraits and still image work where detail is key, they have far less distortion and can operate in very low light conditions. And they are somewhat cheaper, zooms can be very expensive and heavy. I have a Sony a6000 with this lens, and the two kit lenses. The 50mm is used more than the other two. Great bokeh and very sharp images. Well worth the investment.
