Thanks all for the replies. I was able to solve this. Turned out that the RCA/RCA cable that worked fine with a Samsung TV and the same VHS player and cable adapter did not work with this Sony. Replaced the RCA cable with an identical one and things are working :)

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It has a small green and yellow hole above the first HDMI port that you can use for RCA setup for left and right audio or video. I recommend you go and look at the actual model in the store to see if it will fit your cable size as I'm looking at them they look like they're probably about three and a half millimeter jack size like the average headphone size so it may work for you or may not depending on the size of your setup go to Best buy and look there are green and yellow behind the TV on the left side if you're facing the TV
