turn the tv. audio all the way down,and use your control for the soundbar speakers only.

I have a similar problem. I use a receiver and surround system. I connect using the optic out on the TV. Unfortunately I cannot find a way yet to choose external speakers only. This is the first time I have run into this issue with any newer TV I have. So I can only confirm your issue I have not been able to solve it yet. I just keep the volume on the TV speakers very low.
