“I talked with a Best Buy rep yesterday and he mentioned that this tv was built with an 8k capable tv panel. A future update would enable this tv to display 8k images after a future update to software. Is this correct?”

Yeah assuming this is real and if its a BB person they are gravely mistaken. Have you ever seen a TV that gets a firmware update and magically doubles its resolution. I sir or madam have not. Although this would be a great trick it certainly not happen in our lifetime.
