Hi, Ming! The BDP-S6700 was initially released in 2016. And no, the unit is not yet discontinued since it is still available from the Sony website. And as a recommendation, if what you need is a player that can play your DVDs and Bluray discs, then this is the perfect model for you. Hope this helps! -Sam
