Hi Burl,

No, you do not need a separate surround sound receiver to power the BRAVIA Theater Quad speakers. This is an all-in-one powered system: the four wireless speakers connect to a compact central control box, and the amplification is entirely self-contained within the system itself. You simply connect the control box to your TV via an HDMI eARC/ARC port, plug the speakers and control box into power outlets, and the system is ready for operation without any external A/V receiver.
