Q: QuestionIs the Sony SW3 subwoofer powerful and big enough sounding to compliment this system? Or do you think that the SW5 is necessary?

• A:Answer I used the system as is for a few weeks and a subwoofer is definitely needed. I added an SW5 and the bass is massive. I have mine set to -2 it is that powerful. In hindsight, I think an SW3 might have been enough.

• A:Answer No, it does not. Only the Sony SA-SW5 and SA-SW3 Subwoofers can be used individually with this system. The system allows for only one subwoofer to be used and it has to be one of these two.

Q: Questionstrangest looking speakers I’ve ever seen, they look like wi-fi surfboards. What’s the BEST setup for optimal sound quality? Is it best for 2 on the left and 2 on the right, and if you don’t use tv for the center channel, does that affect the dialogue?

For optimal sound, the system is designed to use two speakers at the front (left and right of the TV) and two at the rear, surrounding your viewing position to create a 360 Spatial Sound Mapping field. The system’s Sound Field Optimization automatically calibrates the sound to your room's acoustics and speaker placement, even if the placement is not perfectly symmetrical. Regarding dialogue, the Quad system performs an excellent job of creating a "phantom" center channel between the front speakers. If you have a compatible Sony BRAVIA TV, connecting it via the S-CENTER SPEAKER IN port will enable Acoustic Center Sync to use the TV's speakers for dialogue, which can improve the feeling that voices are coming directly from the screen.
