Hi philipt, Please check the rear panel of this subwoofer in the link below. https://docs.sony.com/release//SACS9.pdf Reverse polarity doesn't have effect to the sound. It creates a potential shock hazard, but it's usually an easy repair. Thanks, >Joffrey
