Great quality subwoofer, I was deciding between this and the Polk PSW108. I got lucky and was able to look and hear both of them at my local Bestbuy before I purchased. The main reasons I went with this unit over the Polk are below: 1. The Sony is smaller than the Polk, so it takes up less space in my living room. I also think it looks a little better. 2. The Sony has better specs on paper, 28-200hz, vs 35-200hz for the Polk. In theory, the bass should get 7hz lower on the Sony. 3. The quality of the materials is better on the Sony, the plastic and housing is much better made. 4. The actual subwoofer driver is made of a higher quality rubber on the Sony instead of foam on the Polk, it feels better quality and I would image it lasting longer and taking a heavier beating over time. 5. The Sony has 115w and the Polk has 100w. So the Sony is slightly more powerful. 6. The same Polk has been on the market for at least 8 years, most likely using the same technology from 8 years ago. This Sony is a fairly new offering, I have to believe technology has come a long way in 8 years and the Sony probably is more up to date. I have been very happy with my purchase so far, our living room is average size, maybe 300sqft. The subwoofer fills the room with bass very well.

I have been listening extensively to this Sony SACS9 subwoofer with only a budget Vizio soundbar and an old Vizio plasma screen set for several weeks, pending my purchase of additional speakers to complete my planned 5.1 setup. Yeah, I know. However, even with this temporary and extremely minimalist setup, the Sony has been absolutely stunning with music and movies. This is not coming from a newbie with a bad ear who has never heard great audio. This sub performs way beyond what even the optimum Best Buy set up can allow you to appreciate. With some time to optimize its position in my media room and its settings, it simply delivers with thunderous authority or with delicate subtlety and every good thing in between whatever it should from every music or movie sources I send to it. I am just stunned by and very happy with the very deep, clean, and responsive performance it delivers. The specs say down to 28 Hz and it is every bit of that without boominess or notey resonances or chuffing. At no time do I ever think I am missing any lower bass. It puts out the kind of clean and powerful low bass/LFE that is fully satisfying in my 15 x 18 x 8 (ceiling) media room. I can turn the gain down for just a hint of Hollywood mayhem and destruction or the thundering symphony, or can crank it up to hear and feel as though it has just put them in the middle of the room. I do not like listening much above 90 dB's, but this sub can easily jog along with my Vizio soundbar to very clear and undistorted hearing-damage levels I believe are above 100 dB's. This sub is a real deal at regular price, and even better on sale. You will be very happy with this high quality, home run sub by Sony.

    Completely unexpected..

For $199, I wasn't expecting much and kept my receipt close by in case I didn't like it and wanted to return it. Well, that's not going to happen. I'm still in shock! This has got to be one of the best sounding subs I've heard yet, and I've heard and owned many. SVS, HSU etc. After a couple of hours of run/burn in, it just comes alive. Granted, this is definitely a sub where the saying "less is more" seems appropriate. Don't cram it in a corner and up against a wall. Keep the volume realistic and low as well as the crossover and you will be rewarded with tight, punchy, deep bass. Not boomy or sloppy and one-noted. This thing absolutely floors me. And to make matters even better, it's does an excellent job with both music and movies. You hear it when you're supposed too, not all of the time. Be patient and set it up properly and your jaw will drop to the floor..

    Great budget-friendly sub

This is a great budget-friendly subwoofer. My local Best Buy only had the Polk PSW 108 and Klipsch available to sample, so I couldn’t sample this ahead of purchasing. I liked the Polk, but was unimpressed by the 10” Klipsch comparatively. I ultimately decided to order this Sony, instead, simply because the frequency response was rated lower and it had slightly more wattage than the Polk. It also matches my Sony SS F6000 floor speakers perfectly. I did expect a bit deeper bass with its rated frequency response, but it is plenty adequate and a remarkable improvement over the Boston Acoustics that my receiver came with, which was only rated at 50-170hz and cut out frequently. The Polk PSW 108 at Best Buy did seem to sound better refined than this, but it’s still adequate. Sound quality is actually quite impressive with TV/movies; it’s music (rock, at least) where I think it’s lacking a bit. I found setting the crossover from my receiver at 80hz produced the best overall, and most balanced sound. Anything higher got to be too muddy. Keep this in mind when pairing this to your speakers. I do appreciate being able to turn off the auto-power feature. This prevents the sub from shutting down when there is a period of little-to-no bass sent to it.

After my 4-year old Polk subwoofer failed, I researched and got this one. I wanted a smallish sub to match well with my sound-bar for TV/games. The SA-CS9 is "retiring" in appearance. It produces respectable, adjustable bass for movies and music from its small size and power. It is deep and solid, but has too little power to cleanly drive really high volumes. Installation is easy. A matter of cabling, for the SA-CS9 is not a wireless sub (but Best Buy does carry adaptors online). Has 5-foot power cable. A good array of fine-tuning controls match the sound level of the sub to your main speakers. The rotary volume and high-cut filter are on the back (unlike amps/receivers) yet virtually unmarked, so have to be learned "blind." Instructions for matching the filter to your main speaker size are the best I've ever used. Generally, sub volume should be set at the limit of audibility beneath your main speaker level (unless you crave sound effects). A phase switch helps with front- or back-of-the-room placements. The power-on light is usefully visible from above. After a month of use, I like the sound and ease of controlling my SA-CS9.

    Great thundering BASS!

I bought this subwoofer on a whim after seeing it in my local store. Brought it home and was blown away by the bass this sub puts out. It has clear, punchy, thundering bass. Sounds great with all types of sound, weather it be music, movies, or games it's consistent on all forms. Only thing I don't like about it is the price, it's a little steep for your average stereo user. But when you plug it in, and turn it up, you'll forget all about the price. I'm a slight audiophile, I have to have good bass with everything I listen to, and this delivers! I can hear the bass outside of my house when playing music, absolutely awesome. I also noticed there aren't many reviews on this sub since it's one of Sony's newer products, but if you're looking for great bass while being easy to use, I recommend this for sure you won't be disappointed.

Great for movies and music, although I don't think it has quite the range as advertised, as some bass riffs fade in an out depending on the note being played. It's hard to describe, but some bass notes fall between the highest output of the woofer and the lowest output of the Sony tower speakers I paired with this product, resulting in the bass note simply disappearing. I will attach an image to help explain (as long as you know who the Red Hot Chili Peppers are). Other than that, it can get loud enough to shake my drywall.

I purchased this Sony Subwoofer on sale at Best Buy...got a pretty good deal for $120. I must first say, I previously owned a Sony subwoofer that I also had purchased from Best Buy years ago...My old subwoofer was much more powerful w/ deeper rich bass and the price tag was also cheaper as I only payed $100. After about 10 years the old one finally burned out. I decided to get this one, as I always trust in Sony products. The Sony - Core Series 10" is a great subwoofer in a small room... However, if using in a larger room like a big living room, then it's solid at best. The bass doesn't seem to carry rich deep bass from wall to wall in a large room, but it does a decent job. I definitely would not have payed the regular price of $240, but on sale for $120 is a pretty good buy.
