Hi Chica323, Thank you for your inquiry! Speaker wires that are anywhere between 12 to 16 gauge are most commonly used for connecting speakers to an amplifier or an Audio/Video (A/V) receiver. A lower-gauge number indicates a thicker wire, while a higher-gauge number indicates a thinner wire. Speaker wires with lower-gauge numbers are better at carrying an amplified audio signal. When determining which wire gauge to use, consider how far away the speakers are from your amplifier or A/V receiver. Generally, for short speaker wire runs, a 16-gauge wire is sufficient. However, for longer speaker wire runs (to another room, for example), it is better to use a thicker, lower-gauge wire. You will need to have a receiver/ amplifier that supports speaker connection and audio cable connection for your turntable. Regards, Carl

Please try again later.I don't remember the gauge I used but I usually use a bigger gauge (lower number=thicker wire; High number gauge (anything over 20 gauge) is very thin), the farther you are going from the source to the speakers the more important the gauge becomes. I bought a spool of it at Bestbuy, I think around 12 or 14 gauge when I picked them up. I got the largest standard speaker wire they had. Monster cables are the top of the line stuff but a little pricey, I didn't use that but am very happy with the sound. Hope that helps!
