Hi there! It is recommended to use the PlayMemories Home software to transfer the pictures (and videos) from this camera to a computer. Your computer's USB port doesn't have to be 3.0. 2.0 will be fine. You cannot transfer the files from the camera directly to a thumb drive. Transfer the pictures from the camera to a computer them from the computer to a thumb drive. For your references, you may check out the links below:
