Good Mini Camera With Mini Price

Folks with an Apple iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy 5 have a good camera in their pockets. For those of us whose phone has a crummy camera, the W800 provides a pocket sized camera at a very low price. The W800 has three auto modes but takes its best photos in program mode with the ISO locked to 200. That mode enables you to adjust exposure to make a photo brighter or darker and boost ISO to 400 for flash photos and get faster shutter speeds for photos of sports, kids, pets and other fast moving subjects. Sony uses a two stage shutter button. Press it slightly to focus. A steady green light shows focus is locked. Then press further to release the shutter. The folks who complain about blurred photos should practice the two step shutter release and practice holding the camera rock steady when pressing the shutter. Outdoor photos in bright sunlight are excellent and photos in deep shade are adequate. You can take good closeups of flowers outdoors from a foot away but you need to set ISO at 200 and use a tripod or support to keep the camera very still for sharp results. The optical zoom lets you use a wide angle view to cover a large area and then zoom in for a much closer view. The one page of instructions gets you started. Press on the menu button and then practice the dozens of special modes and settings until you fully understand all of the options the W800 offers. The W800 is the smallest and lightest camera with an optical zoom lens in its price range. It matches the quality of the iPhone camera at a much lower price.

Size is a plus, but flash position is a minus.

Bought this camera to carry in my work bag and snap photos when the opportunity presents itself. My DSLR is wonderful, but just too large to carry around for occasional photos through the day. My phone camera is very convenient, but not very good at night shots. This camera is the perfect combination of both extremes. At 4 inches by 2.5 inches, it's small size is a definite plus. Slips into my work bag pocket without picking up a lot of space. I carry it easily in my shirt front pocket or pants pockets and hardly know it's there. Photos aren't DSRL quality, but that's expected with a camera this size and price range (though it's better than my phone camera with night shots). The only negative is the flash is situated in an awkward position in the front and my middle finger blocks the flash sometimes. Holding the camera one handed (in your right hand), most people put their thumbs on the back, index finger on the shutter button, and their other finger curl around the front and side of the camera. The problem is your fingers sometimes get in the way of the flash and your photo is only half lit or not lit at all. Use this camera with two hands and you should be okay.

I bought and kept this camera because it is rechargeable. That part is great and I love it. But I have yet to find a way to take photos I actually like. My old camera, a Canon, with way less capability, took nice clear, crisp photos with no adjustments whatsoever on my part. If it didn't finally break, I'd still be using it, despite the batter-eating. But every photos this camera takes is just not crisp. I like to photo my garden to keep track of what bloomed when, and it does that, as far as being able to identify what the flower is, but distance shots are the worst. And I'm only talking maybe 20 feet away. They're just not nearly as clear as my old camera. I will continue to experiment with different settings, but I shouldn't have to. Like I said, my old 10 megapixel Canon, probably 7 years old, took great shots with no adjusting on my part at all! I could clearly see every leaf on every plant. This camera makes foliage look like a haze of green many times. I am VERY disappointed, and can't recommend it at all, unless you just want that one good feature, being able to recharge the battery from your computer or a wall plug. (Easiest to do it from PC when I upload photos.)

I like Sony's approach to a digital camera. It is easy to shift from still mode to movie mode. But unlike previous versions of this camera, once in movie mode, the owner cannot go to zoom; the viewer has to first zoom in, than start the movie mode--and cannot zoom out. But on the whole, for the price it is a great camera, a flexible camera. People say pixel size doesn't matter. I have low pixel cameras, and taking a distance picture makes for an impressionistic photo; a larger pixel camera seems to give greater clarity to those distance shots. And when you live in a place like San Francisco which has great scenic views--clarity of pictures is a must. This camera is more than adequate tot it's task. There is also a handy dandy recharger for the battery which is really helpful.

    The perfect camera for traveling

    Posted

My wife and I own a Nikon DSLR, but I recently received a promotion at my job that involves me traveling all over the country, so I wanted something much more portable to be able to take with me to take pictures on my trips. I didn't want to fill up my iPhone with a ton of pictures, so I started researching small, reasonably priced point and shoot digital cameras. Sony came very highly recommended by some friends of ours who are photography enthusiasts. They actually advised me to avoid Canon point and shoots (which I was originally looking at) as they apparently have a lot of problems. I ended up purchasing this Sony Cybershot DSC-W800 and I have not been disappointed. The price was right and it's exactly the size I was looking for. It fits right in your pocket. This camera takes very high quality photos and produces beautiful 720p HD video. Even my wife, who is an avid DSLR user, loves it. I highly recommend this camera!

Unfortunately, this camera feels uncomfortably small in my hands. For an inexpensive camera it has a good menu selection for various photographic compositions. Portrait, Landscape, Night Portrait, Night Scene, High Sensitivity (for low-light and no flash), Gourmer--for food pix, Pet, Beach--for waterside scenes, and Snow--for very bright scenes. It also offers a steady shot mode. This camera is even equipped with facial recognition. All these features 10 years ago would have cost a bundle, now they're packed into this (too) tiny package. This camera proves that these days you don't need to pay a lot to get good features in a basic camera. It's small enough to drop in your pocket for a quick go-anywhere camera. Decent resolution, nice settings, and reasonable shutter lag make this a handy grab-and-go camera that isn't going to hog your pocket or break the bank. Now, if I just had smaller hands...

I purchased this as a small, quick camera. I was hooked by the ISO 3200 setting, which allows me to take pictures in concert settings without a flash. It still requires a steady hand, but my cellphones were never able to produce any good photos in those low-light settings. Minor annoyances on first use: Don't try to remove what looks like a paper coating on the lens. It belongs there to protect the lens cover. Also, the battery can be inserted the wrong way or the right way. Double-check the contacts to make sure you get it right. These are only first-time problems. I got a great price on this camera at Best Buy, and it is so tiny that it has become my go-to camera when I don't want to haul around a large SLR. Picture quality is excellent, and you can go full auto or manually set everything. It holds your manual settings even if you power "off." It uses SD cards, which are affordable.

I simply wanted a quick and easy to use camera that also had the ability to easily transfer images to my computer. This camera is pretty great with 2 minor issues. 1) The cable used to charge it is a special USB cable so if you lose it you can't easily replace it, stores like best buy don't have it "in store." Or at least not in my area, I checked. 2) You have to buy a separate SD card, OK I get that, but then you also need a computer with an SD card reader built in, or you will have to purchase a USB card reader, which was my solution, to transfer the images to your computer.. All in all I'm happy with the camera, image quality is great for the price. One last comment - pick up a camera case when you buy this. CSJ

Power button is too small. Picture is good, not great. Could have been better. Bought it for kid's field trip to zoo. I wasn't too impress as the battery drains fast, can't zoom much and it's hard as the buttons are too small. Felt like this is best for kids and not for adults. I ended using my old Sony camera and was happier. I don't want to return as I don't believe on that. I guess I'll just keep it in the box until my old one give up on me. If you're planning to get this, don't. Pay a little more and get the better one.

Hi Weasellys, The battery life depends on how you use the camera. You may adjust the screen brightness and set the Power Save to Max to extend the battery power. Check the links below for more details:

This is a nice dedicated point and shoot camera for under $100 (got mine on sale for $45). It has a decent amount of options for allowing decent control over exposure while still having automatic options for in-the-moment shots. It is a 20 megapixel camera but it's a bit wasted as the lens really doesn't pick up the detail to justify that size in most cases. I have an older 5 mpx camera with a terrific lens that picks up detail much better. Thankfully you can easily adjust the memory size of each picture. All in all if you need something small to get the job done and you want a dedicated camera this not a bad purchase for the price.

I already have a couple of SLR cameras but the problem is that they are bulky and have to be around your neck making you look like paparazzi or a tourist. I wanted a camera that was compact, light, and took great shots without having to spend a lot of money. The answer was the Sony WSC-W800. It takes great photos at 20.1 MP, awesome videos. The microphone is okay and picks up sound very good. It has options such as continuous picture frame capture and takes excellent panoramic shots. It is very light weight and fits very discreetly in your hand or pocket. All of this for about $100 bucks. I know that a lot of people prefer cell phone cameras but for awesome pictures and value I recommend this camera. I am very happy with the value and performance of this product

I had originally purchased an inexpensive vivitar from another store and when I tried to set it up(insert batteries and memory card) I realized what a poor camera it was for a young person. That is when I purchased the one I did even though it was a little more than what I wanted to pay for a first camera. However I am glad I did, My 7 year old grandson had no trouble using it right away. I had already set it up. he unwrapped it and used it on Christmas day. In fact he was so excited he forgot about his other presents for awhile. They have not downloaded any photos on the computer yet so I don't know how that will go. He has a memory card in the camera and already has a lot of photos stored.

    Good Camera For The Price

I wanted to get a new camera but wanted to have something that was small enough to get into concerts with and also travel to the many places I visit over the summer. If you want to get a clear photo of your favorite artist rocking out on stage, this is not the camera for you. The problem is that it takes so long for the camera to take and focus on a moving object that it comes out a little blurry. I was disappointed needless to say, but if you want to take some pretty nice stills then this is a camera for you. A great gift to give to an aspiring photographer. Overall, great camera for the price and not too expensive to replace if broken.

I bought this camera for a trip to Europe to replace an older snapshot camera I had that broke. The camera was fine, it was easy to work with and all that jazz, but the picture quality was not that great and I was a little disappointed. I had to retake almost every picture several time to get a decent looking image. I have never had that problem before or since this camera so I'm not sure if it was me or the camera! Outside images were better than inside images, even with flash as well. However, I learned that my cellphone took better pictures in all areas with little difficulty

I bought. This camera for my wife. She works for the Marion County Humane Society and uses it all the time to take pics of dogs and cats to upload to their website for people looking to adopt a new family member. She loves the small size for carrying in her pocket, the great pics it takes and how easy it is to use. This is the second Sony I have purchased from Best Buy and highly recommend them. The first one died on a canoe trip when we fell in the river, but took great pics as well.

I would have given a 5 star rating, but I haven't used this very much. However, I really like the quality of pictures that it takes. I have had more experience using Canon Powershot cameras and was always disappointed with how they blur when not using the flash. This Sony seems to do better in that area. My younger children can use it with ease. The size is compact enough to fit in a pocket for easy access. I also really like the silver color as it is appropriate for male and female use. This is a great feature for a camera that is being shared by many family members.

I was looking to replace a broken point and shoot camera without spending big bucks. So far, this camera had done exactly what I need. Pictures are high quality for most situations. Low light and at a distance shots were not great, but that is the case with similar cameras this size. Still tinkering with the features to shoot on the spot -- there's a delay if trying to shoot in an instant, but I am sure I will figure that out with use. Would recommend for the price and quality materials, as it doesn't feel cheap.

I bought this as a gift for my 11 year old niece. I think this camera fills a gap for people who don't have smartphones; it's easy to set up and use, takes decent photos, and doesn't break the bank. For the most part newer smartphones will take as good if not better snaps, but she wanted to run around and take pictures with her friends and of cats, and this is perfect for that.

I brought this camera, bc my 9yr old daughter drop & broke my Samsung & I needed a camera for my son 1st bday party & I didn't want to spend a lot of money. This is a good basic small camera that gets the job done for now. It doesn't have the video option like my Samsung. This camera takes really good pictures, but sometimes the focus goes off making the pic blurred for no reason, but it doesn't happen a lot. It has the zoom in/out which works great.
