“Dad's DSC-W70 quit working, and I've suggested he replace rather than repair. He has the adapter that attaches to the tripod mount, and both wide and telephoto lenses already. Would that setup work on the DSC-W830?”

You would have to update the post with the adapter info (make/model etc) or check with the manufacturer of the adapter. i would imagine that there is enough of a difference that they may not work together.
