Seems to be holding up fine, after many hours of use. Don't expect anything 'special', it is just a controller that is holding up as one should be expected. As for an 'updated controller', it is 'newer' due to the date it was available since the PS4 has been out longer than this controller. Nothing to be overly excited about, but no complaints with it after having it for awhile. (When it was first available)

Unfortunately not, its the same, but still best on market. You can buy replacement stick guards.
