You do not have to connect your accessory like a DVD player to your cable box. Your television may have other input sources HDMI ports or RCA cable connections. Routing the DVD player through a cable box is not a tradiitonal choice. If you do like the Sony reply indicated...make sure the cable box is on and tuned to the DVD player through a channel assigned in the cable box options. Make things easier by conencting the DVD player to the television and not the cable box.

Ex) game,av 1, av 2, etc. Also if your running it through cable box you need to make sure you go through the menu for that as well and make sure your on the correct option for that as well and also obviously you need to make sure the cable is powered on since your using it to run DVD player.
