Would this work without problems on my a5100? null

Yes this will work on your camera without problems. It's a great lens, however it's a full frame lens, hens the FE in the name. "FE" means "full frame E-mount lens". Your camera is a crop sensor camera, so this will not be a true 50mm lens on your camera, you will need to multiply 50 by 1.7, so the lens will be somewhere around 70-75mm. If this isn't an issue to you, you will have no problems, but if you need a true 50mm this will not be what you need. Two questions to google, "what is full-frame vs. crop sensor(or APS-C)" and what is a Sony FE lens vs a Sony E-Mount lens". Both questions will go hand in hand but it will give you the answer you need.
