Do I need a headset with this controller to be able to talk online to friends during a game or can I do it through the controller itself I’m confused with the description null

There is a microphone as well as a speaker in the controller. So your controller will play sounds associated with the game, and you can speak through it to other players. It does pick up a lot of ambient sound, so for most situations I would recommend getting a headset of some type, but in the meantime it will serve its purpose.

You can actually do it through the controller and it sounds pretty decent for a little speaker on the controller

The dual sense has a built in mic, you do not need a mic. It's not the best quality but it works. The mute button is on the controller itself as well.

The controller does have a built in Mic but you can have a headset like the PS4 controller. The dual sense has a mute button on the bottom between the joysticks which is a nice feature. Hope that helped you

The controller does have a mic on it. Headsets are always going to be much better quality though.
