The portal mainly works off the conslole. Think of the portal as just a mirrored screen for the console. It's 90% an accessory for the console. If he gets a portal, and still plays fortnite, he'll still be playing it off the console. It's probably overheating for numerous reasons. One COULD be.. that he's had the console for a while and he's a kid so the system needs to be cleaned. Another could be that it sits vertical and the thermal paste needs replaced. Laying the console down horizontally may help. Need more info with a question like that

Please try again later.Usually the portal is best with single player games when I tried playing with multiplayer games it would have a couple seconds lag other than that yes it would work. The other problem would be that your PlayStation would still be on while the portal is being used so there is still a chance the PlayStation could overheat. Maybe trying to clean out any dust in the fans or even buying an attachment fan could work .
