Ignore Jcbro. They are mostly incorrect. PS5 games will ONLY be compatible with the system's internal SSD, and compatible M.2 drives in a future update. PS4 titles ARE compatible with an external HDD. So yes, you will be able to use your PS4 titles on an external drive connected to a PS5.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. They portable hard drive disk will work on ps5 but you can not play ps5 games off it. You can store ps5 games on it but you will have to redownload them back on to the system itself to play it. Heres the good thing though you can play ps4 game that are downloaded on the external hdd. It was stated that you can.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes it can. External storage just doesn't work on next gen games (ps5 games) but you can't still install and play ps4 games on a ps5 via external HDD. SOURCE: https://www.ign.com/articles/ps5-external-storage-ssd-hdd-cant-install-play
