The $499 PS5 is the Standard Edition, which comes with a disk drive. The $399 PS5 is the Digital Edition, which does not come with one. This means that if you had disks you used with your PS4 that you want to use with the PS5, or want to buy disks for your PS5, you will not be able to do that on the Digital Edition. You will need Standard Edition for that.
