You can use the dongle but you also have a USB to Bluetooth adapter included for wireless conection.

Yes the dongle is required to connect it wirelessly, or you can use a 3.5mm cable and plug-in to the controller.

The dongle is required, but it tucks away nicely in the ports on the back of the PS5.
