You may have a defective unit. I got one for my wife at Christmas so she could play music from her phone in the car. When she leaves for work I can hear the Sony playing from her car in the garage from my bedroom. Even when I set it up for her it was loud and clear sounding. In fact turning the volume all the up was almost too loud for me and I always enjoy my music loud.
