Hi Paulie, We highly recommend using the supplied remote when using the AV receiver functions. The full operation of third party remote is not guaranteed to work. Happy shopping & thanks for your interest in Sony! Regards, David

Not 100% on that but i can tell you when I have my apple tv plugged into the receiver its remote controls the receiver volume. Hope that helps.
