Pros, 1. Supports about almost every audio format. Dolby Atmos and DTS-X are there being the newest and best ones. 2. Has a clean passthrough for sound and video. 3. 7.2 of course which can be changed to 5.1.2 or 5.2.2 for Dolby Atmos with 2 subwoofers. 4. Very good build quality with solid parts. This weights a little more than my Onkyo 5.1 receiver and is also smaller so I get more air circulation and the receiver runs cooler. 5. It support HDR and Dolby Vision. 6. Contrary to a lot of other reviews say I didn't find it hard to setup and the remote control and receiver menu I thought were fairly good. 7. This is louder than my Onkyo 5.1 receiver at lower volume levels. It definitely more powerful and efficient. 8. This is the biggest, the sound quality for the money is exceptional in my opinion. I've listened to receivers that cost 2 to almost 3 times as much that were on par with this receiver. 9. It has all the connections I personally need plus some. Cons, 1. Extremely hard to get(at least in my area). These receivers sellout fast and I had to order one which took almost week for me to get. I would've waited an extra day if I did a store pickup. 2. Most of the speaker connections are wire clamps and they don't fit the biggest wire sizes. I got some 16 gauge wire and it seems to work good, but I'd be careful about going to a 14 or 12. Because of all this banana plugs are out of the question. 3. It's not a 9.2 or higher, but you get what you pay for. 4. This unit doesn't support 4ohz speakers. I'm running 2 6ohz front channels, 2 6ohz Dolby Atmos enabled, 1 6ohz center channel and 2 8ohz back surround speakers, they fit the specs and seem to run great. 5. This is louder than my Onkyo 5.1 receiver, but it's not going to fill large rooms very well in my opinion nor power bigger speakers. This unit is most ideal for a small to possibly a mid sized room depending on your ceiling height. If you have a mid sized room with a ceiling smaller than 10 feet in my opinion I think you'd be fine running this receiver. 6. It only has one HDMI ARC out and only 4 HDMI inputs. It doesn't have WIFI nor ethernet which doesn't bother me because my TV supplies those things. Connections can be limited to people looking to hook up more one TV and have more than one audio zone. 7. It doesn't accept wireless speakers. All in all I'm very happy with this receiver. For it's price in my opinion it can't be easily beat for it's sound quality and the features it offers. Living in a small place it's perfect for my needs plus some, I love the extra headroom. Now if you're a serious audiophile I'd have to say save up and buy at least a 9.2 system with more feature. Overall this is the best starting point receiver for someone building a home theater system in my opinion.

Excellent upgrade from my Yamaha 6750! Unfortunately my old receiver didn't survive storage for the past 9 years, so now that the kids are old enough we needed a new receiver to truly enjoy the home theater. Not wanting to break the bank we went with the Sony 7.2, and let me tell you it does not disappoint. Don't let Best Buy's inaccurate specs on this item fool you (it does come with a remote btw, lol). This system does everything you can think of and has all the upgrades and all the newest tech and it's about half the size of my old Yamaha. It has plenty of power for any speakers big or small, and the 7.2 is great. What they don't tell you is how easy it is to set up. It comes with a calibration mic and an auto set up function which really tailors to your space. You'll want to use this for sure to get started or the noise will be louder in the wrong speakers. Plus the great part about this is that it's compatible with however many speakers you have and in whatever set up you have...5.1, 6.1, .2 etc...upper speakers, lower speakers, one surround back, two surround back, one sub/ two sub etc. I was thinking I'd have to tweak it with my 6.1 JBL speaker set that I had on hand, but nope it was an option and knew what to do. Honestly you get way more than what's advertised, plenty of power and all the bells and whistles at half the price of the fancier brands. I can't speak for longevity, but as someone who appreciates something being great right out of the box with easy set up this thing is fantastic.

This receiver is a perfect example, which proves my theory that the speakers are the most important part of your surround set up. Don’t get me wrong, Sony has always made a solid product that put out good clean sound. I also have an older Sony 5.1 receiver that looks exactly like this one from several years back. I have bowers and Wilkins wall-mounted speakers to go along with a Klipsch center channel and Klipsch rear surrounds. I’m also running 2 quality subs. So if you already have good speakers and are just looking to upgrade for Dolby Atmos effects, I would highly recommend this receiver. I got it on sale for $350. About half of what most people would spend for a seven channel Dolby Atmos receiver and I honestly couldn’t be happier. I Definitely recommend this.

Easy set up. Great sound through my Polk center channel speaker and Polk bookshelf speakers. Easy to use. Love the Bluetooth set up with my phone , music sounds very good. I would recommend, great bang for the buck.

Very good AV receiver that won't break the bank! Have a 5.1.2 setup. Using it with other sony core series speakers in a 12x12 room. Theater quality sound on a budget! Love it!

As for the receiver it is decent for the price . I dont know all the functions as the instructions came in French and Spanish only. This is iowa so why not right. The front panel is bent and the inside is no longer dirty as I have cleaned it. The mic cable was tied in a knot to the power cable so it was at least present unlike the fm antenna dont know why they didnt use coax now I get to ask sony for a replacement all in all sounds good works good does what a cheap receiver does. The max power is a stupid rating rms real output of 45 watts a channel into 8 ohms is more realistic come on sony dont be like the cheap ebay brands dont use improper ratings. Atmos would be dope if I knew how to get it set up guess ill learn Spanish I know a lot so ot wont be too hard. Maybe a year and ill be able to read the manual.

This receiver puts out more than enough power! Plenty of side features. I paired this with the Klipsch HT-50 Surround speakers and the sound is amazing! Whether you choose 5.1 option or 7.1 this receiver has you covered.

Easy to plug and play with my home speakers that were built into my home . Great quality and easy setup and calibration.

Great for the price. I have a 7.1 Yamaha system that is 10 years old that this is replacing. I wanted something with Atmos as well as support for 4K. I had multi room in the past but never used it, so I decided to go with a little smaller setup. I also added the Sony Atmos height front speakers for additional Atmos effect. I have been very happy with the set up so far. I have a 5.1.2 set up now. The system does a good job of turning on and switching to proper input from TV to xbox without having to ever touch the Sony remote. I like that my wife can operate it. It all just works with TV remote. It is great for use in bonus room, or any room that you want a little more than a high end sound bar. The only reason not 5 star is the menu setup is a little old looking. It all works, just not going to WOW you.

Bought this to replace my 5.1 AV receiver so I could utilize Dolby Atmos. And you can really tell the difference when you add the Atmos speakers. Best Receiver under $500.

Sony is one of my favorite brands. And this on is no exception. I had another brand reveiver but it was 5.1. It was ok but this one just blows the other one away with the Dolby Atmos sorround sound. Looks nice in the living room. Along with my the Sony Subwoofer. I get a nice theater sound at home. Would recomend it!

I researched for months looking for the right receiver I bought a yamaha 4k and I was not happy with it so I took it back and bought a 8k sony AN1000 for $899.00 2days later they dropped it down to $799.00 so they are gonna give me a $100.00 rebate I was worried it wasn't gonna be worth the money but i was wrong and very surprised I am very pleased with my purchase this receiver is amazing and it works great with all my devices the ps5, my new xbox and movies sound amazing I love listening to music and even that sounds great I would definitely jump on this before it goes back up you wont be disappointed for the price I just hope it last aslong as my childhood one did I've always been a sony fan and will continue to be after this new surround sound system I decided to go with all sony equipment since i just got a new 85in sony tv Im happy with all of it.

This is a good receiver for its price. Of course, this is not Hi End, but just an entry-level receiver. The receiver has decent sound quality in both stereo and multi-channel mode. If the listening room is not very large, this receiver is quite enough. Among the shortcomings, the receiver is a little difficult to set up, because not all the menus are displayed on the TV screen. Spring clamps for all speakers except the front ones. The main advantage is the sound quality, for such a price it is very good, you will clearly enjoy listening to music and watching movies on this receiver.

I love this receiver. I’ve never had a receiver this powerful. And with 7.2 surround, this thing blows my old receiver away. So happy with my choice

I purchased a set of Sony Core Series floor standing, atmos, center channel, bookshelf speakers and 2 Sony sub woofers and paired them with this AMP. I love the sound, granted I cannot comment on the longevity of the system but in the past 5 hours I hooked it up and cannot stop listening to it. Very clear and the sound is crisp. I had originally paired the same speakers with a Denon 7.2 atmos amp and they sounded wimpy, well because the power output of the amp and ohm rating was different. This Sony unit packs a punch, it has less features but I was after the sound over the features. A note 14 gauge is too thick for the spring loaded wire sockets, maybe go 16 or 18 gauge, this is just a suggestion I am by no means an audio expert, but I had already purchased a roll of 14 gauge. Good Price and Amazing Sound!

I haven't used Atmos speakers with it yet. But they are very good for the price.im looking to upgrade as I don't think it's powerful enough for the Klipsch speakers. If you love blasting music loud or w.e I HIGHLY Recommend buying an external fan. I bought one from AC infinity. It does get hot to the touch.

I replaced a 20+ year old Sony Receiver. When I came to Best Buy, I had a consultant come andnoook at my situation. The measurement on the So y, which was on sale, were perfect. The power is so much more than my old one. The quality is great.

Upgraded my Yamaha RX-V4A to this wonderful receiver. Having recently purchased the Bravia Oled 95k I needed something that would support Atmos to get the best out of my home theater. Pairing this with Sony Core Series towers I couldn’t be happier. Watching Dune on blue ray I was able to pick up details in sounds that I couldn’t hear before. The richness and fullness is incredible. I look forward to watching more movies and being fully immersed.

Sony makes the BEST audio/video equipment on the market. I wanted a new receiver and splurged a little on this one! Over 1000 WATTS. Can’t wait to connect Sony 65”, Sony Bluray, Sony surround sound with this Sony receiver!

Love it so far! Integrated perfectly with my new Sony A80K 77” OLED TV. Simple to setup, great sound and turns on when I power up the TV.
