It doesn't matter whether you connect it to the Surround Back R or L, you're missing a surround channel. Why would you omit a surround channel, when you can configure it as a 5.1 and have true surround? Provided that you do have at least 5 speakers and a sub-woofer? This receiver can be configured many ways when you do the speaker placement setup. I hope this helps.

You will have to connect the surround back speaker to Surround back left speaker port.
