the (.2) is because there are 2 sub woofer outputs.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Chris, 7.2 means you can connect up to 7 speakers and 2 subwoofers on the receiver. But please be mindful that when you use 2 subwoofers, it may overpower the other speakers if set up in a small room. The speaker pattern should be 7.1. You may see the unit has 2 ports for subs. Please check the link below. (Refer to page 11) https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/4726/890436b47fd2ffcc4003f34dc5f2592c/47269051M.pdf Regards, Jess
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think the .2 in the 7.2 refers to the option to have a 2nd subwoofer hooked up - which this unit allows for. I have mine hooked up to only 1 sub. But there is another connection for a second if desired. This receiver is definitely only capable of one zone (versus some that have two zones) and as such I would say it is correctly labeled as a single channel only. I can’t explain why it’s labeled 7.1 on the back. It supports 7.2 speaker configs no problem.
