“I do not have a SD slot on my Dell. I do have USB ports. I want to transfer Music in MP3 on my computer to a SD card and play through SanDisk Clip Jam MP3 player plugged into headphones, to be completely portable. Is this what I need?”

Hi BoaterBill, yes the card reader will be able to read and write on your SD card and allow you to transfer your music to the card. Then you can put the car back into MP3 player.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Fyi you may be able to transfer music directly by plugging a USB cable (probably came with the Clip player) from PC to the player. My old Clip worked that way & I think most do. In that case a reader like this is not really necessary. It may be faster using a reader, or you may want the reader for other uses but thought I'd mention it
