• It uses a standard micro usb...just like any android phone. So as long as you can charge a cell phone (other then iPhone) you can charge it anywhere.

• Yes, the power block that you are plugging into the outlet is only drawing the 5-12amps that the speaker will use. So if the outlet is rated for higher that's fine but that's not the amount of power that is delivered to your device.
