Yes. There are technically three modes: active noise cancelling (which blocks outside sounds), standard mode (which doesn't block or enhance sounds, this is like regular non ANC headphones, and pass through/ambient mode (which uses the built in microphones to pass outside sounds through the headphones so you can hear things around you. The last option is probably what you're looking for while walking down the street so you can hear your surroundings.
