Yes, unless you buy a data sim card. this is okay translator, but next time i would buy a different one because it has given me some problems.

This device comes with a complimentary 2 year data plan that works in over 130+ countries (full country list here, select country tab: https://www.pocketalk.com/languages-countries/). This works in areas where cellular signal can be found, and won't work in low signal areas e.g. underground or in the countryside. In this situation, it does have a wi-fi mode so you can connect to that if you need to translate in these areas.
