I haven’t heard anything about it needing to have online for campaign, there is an offline mode for split screen, I’m not sure what else has offline features.

No single player modes can be played completely offline

The FULL game isn't on the disc. Game is too big. As long as you can connect at a friend's house and download it. You can absolutely play the campaign offline.
