Midnight eastern time is when the stores are opening. For example I live in MS time so they will open at 10pm for me cause that is 12 eastern time.

At least 30 minutes earlier for those type of release events. The bigger the game, the earlier you should go. So this game, maybe like at least 45 minutes early.

If you pre-order it doesn't matter, they reserve your copy, you can pick it up the next morning of a midnight release if you want. If you did not preorder, I don't think it matters either, I have been to every switch game release and have always seen tons of extra games at the store and never seen them run out. If you want to be in front of the line be there at 7-8pm. If it don't matter to you be there by 8:50pm.
