They have announced Simon Belmont, Richter Belmont, Dark Samus, Chrom, and King K Rool as of 8/8/18. Just keep watching for news of more details. They will announce more as they see fit.

Yesterday (11/1/18) they revealed the final launch roster which includes all characters that have ever been playable in a smash game, 6 fully new characters, and 7 "echo fighters". They also announced that they will be releasing DLC characters for $6 each. Including Piranha Plant who will be free to anyone who pre-orders the game digitally or registers a physical copy with MyNintendo by 1/31/19. It's not clear if Piranha Plant will also be available for purchase. They announced a DLC player 5 pack for $25. Although they didn't specifically say this, it is reasonable to assume this means they will release 5 DLC characters in approximately the next 12 months.

It is 2021. Sora is the last character. No more additional characters. Sakurai is tired of this crapping community. He wants to make something better and enjoyable. I liked the fact that Waluigi was not in the game. It helped confirm that there is no God.

Probably not, they are bringing back every single character from the entire series plus Ridley. So that is already a huge selection. Maybe eventually some dlc characters later on.
