Hello, Thank you for reaching out to us. When connected directly to the recorder using the VGA/HDMI port to a monitor, you can use the mouse to navigate the menu to see both current and past footage. The same is applicable when remotely accessing your unit. For this, the only requirement is an internet connection to both the recorder and your mobile device. The amount of time you can go back and look at recordings is limited to the size of your hard drive vs. the amount of recording it does. You could have a month of data to look at if you seldom record, however if you record all cams all day, it will be less.
