Hi Chloe. No, most of our users simply connect the NVR using the P2P method. You simply connect the NVR to your router using the included network cable, and then scan the QR Code label on the top of the NVR using the Swann Security App. The QR code contains the ID for the NVR and helps you pair it within seconds. Port forwarding is a more complicated process & not something we generally support, but is occasionally used by those in IT who have specialist knowledge with such things. -SD, Swann team
