Hello LW. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. This recorder does not require an internet connection to function and you only need a monitor/TV for the initial setup. However, an internet connection is required if you will need to remotely access and control your device. The general watts per camera are 3.6 Watts, 2.592 KWh/month while the generally uses 72 Watts, 51.84 KWh/month. This system also includes a 1TB HDD that can store months of video before overwriting older files. You can easily back up videos to your personal Dropbox account in the cloud &/or transfer videos to a USB memory stick.
