No, you can charge them on the console while its on the dock just like the joycons that come with the console to begin with. However if you want to charge 4 at once, then yes I recommend getting extra chargers

The Switch comes with everything you need. The joy cons get charged while attached to the switch or in the dock. There is also a charging cable included in the box that charges the switch or the controllers outside the dock and plugs into the wall.
