Yes. I play with 4 controller total and it works pretty smoothly

Yes, but only player one will het the points to unlock items on the file

Yes. You can split Joycons, or have two each. Different games require one or two Joycons per player.

Yes each player can use their own controller. They can use either a single controller or a set. Certain things are only available if the player users both controllers (left + right)
