You could but you may need more storage for video, especially if you save some recordings. Hard drives are cheap these days. It also requires at least a USB 2.0, or 3.0.

I myself am using a really cheap 128GB SSD drive I installed in a USB enclosure. But people are having really good luck with very specific 1TB WD and Seagate hard drvies. Go to Tablo web site to determine what hard drives are compatible.
