Released 9 years ago, the original game's visuals don't hold up to Part II's graphics on modern hardware. Most of the comparisons online are actually comparing pre-rendered cutscenes instead of actual in-game ones.  I've attached a picture so you can compare both versions.

There are also various changes and improvements besides visuals (gameplay, controls, Dualsense haptics, accessibility options, etc.)

If you already own the original and are not interested in experiencing an upgraded version then you should not buy it. I will though.

To meet the standards of a PS5 game. To lead in to the upcoming The Last of Us television show. To give something for Naughty Dog developers to do to enable them to learn the PS5 hardware.

A couple of reasons, the TV series is coming out soon and Naughty Dog wanted to take advantage of that, and it gives the title a nice change so it fits nice on the shelf with Last of Us Part II. It did look excellent on PS3 and even better on PS4, but the controls and graphics are just a bit smoother on the PS5.

Mainly for money. But atleast this has far better value than say something like GTA Definitive Edition and COD MW2 campaign remastered

Honestly, partially because they want to earn more money (which in this case is not very ethical, considering the $70 USD price), and because it supposedly will look better graphically better..."among" other improvements, I'll bet to say.
